About BiasViewer
Welcome to BiasViewer – a blogazine sharing my humble, opinionated, and sometimes, outlandish views on various trending news stories from around the globe. My aim is to question the widespread slanted explanations and political views disseminated by the media giants – to view bias and provide a fresh perspective.
My name is Riaz Sidi (pronounced ree•azz see•dee) and I have worked in the media for the past eight years. I have written for newspapers and magazines, worked as a PR Assistant during university, and recently taught a course on Business Communications at a local college.
I live in Ottawa, Canada, where last year I completed a BA in Mass Communications and prior to that, a Diploma in Print-Journalism.
What is Bias?
We each view the world quite differently. What we have learned to believe is different from one another. Bias is a collection of our beliefs. Every person has a bias shaped by their unique experience.
The goal of BiasViewer is to propose the acceptance of a new reality for journalism - for us to embrace that we each have a subjective reality which dictates what we believe to be personally objective - and not attempt anymore to dismiss this reality.
BiasViewer is a forum where I will share my perspective. By questioning mainstream media and encouraging you to engage by sharing your thoughts on the issues, this site will act as a watchdog over those reporting the news, and those abusing that power.
Collective Ignorance
I founded this website to challenge the concepts which exist unchallenged within the field of journalism. Since I see mainstream media as a confusing public spectacle I will use this blogazine to voice my dissent (or support).
How credible is the media, really? If I were to question every tiny detail about every news story then surely some myths could be broken. Yet how exhilarating will it be if I express my view, as bias as it be, and open the door for you to express your bias’. Our collective ignorance could surely break some barriers, even some we didn’t think existed.
So Why Blog?
From a young age I knew I wanted to be a journalist; to write for the local daily paper or appear on TV – but I have realized something we all take for granted – the exceptional power of the Internet!
It’s 2010 – I can have my own web-magazine, share my own views, be my own editor and report what I think is the cover story. Most importantly, it provides me with an opportunity to instantly interact with you, to listen to different perspectives, and to learn how you view and shape the world.
If you have any feedback, suggestions or wish to guest post, I welcome your questions and comments on any subject – so fill out the contact form below to get in touch with me – and I will quickly get back to you.
Thank you for taking the time to visit.
